BillMeLater Complaint - Not It's Cracked Up To Be - Paying Your Bill

Paying Your Bill - Complaint
Review by Blackdawn_70631 on 2011-05-24
BillMeLater should be renamed to PayRightNow.

The idea of Billing later is to pay 'later'. This site you are paying almost as soon as a regular credit card bill. It gives this big hype about not paying for 6 months, and I had a friend telling me the 6 month payment plan is great. So I read the fine print looking for that snag. I couldn't find it.
The site goes on and on about how to pay for your 6 month plan and what happens after it, but nothing actually about it.

So I make an account and buy one item to test it and was shocked to find I have to pay the whole bill "at one time".

I called and asked what was going on and was told the merchant sites have to offer the "6 month plan" to customers.

I looked and looked through their FAQ page and every where for that. I did not find it "at all". I may have missed a page or two, but from what I'm aware of, BillMeLater DOES NOT mention any where that the merchant site has to offer the package to their customers.

I'm canceling my account from BillMeLater.

It SOUNDS great, doesn't it?

The interesting part is that you TRIED to do your due dilligence.

Very helpful - thanks for stopping by and posting your experience. The best thing to do is save first, and pay after saving with your own money for the stuff that you need. Any company that offers to lend you their money is going to require a profit. With a name like "BillMeLater" you were right to be suspicious.

I have had a BillMeLater account for 2 or 3 years now and have never had an issue. They are correct in that the 6 month no interest/no payment plan has to be offered by the merchant you are buying from. Otherwise, it just works as any other credit card. It's a line of credit you can use while shopping online and nothing more, but a majority of their merchants do offer the 6 months of no payments or a 90-day no interest grace period or something similar..hence the name of the company "BillMeLater".

I have used BML for major purchases such as Apple computers or iPods, a couple designer handbags, and I've always had them paid off within 6 months with no problems, no interest. I love it.
